Paying special attention to the point that the aim of the university is to graduate students who are entrepreneurs, Demirtaş the Head said: “Our mission is not to bring up graduates who look for job. We do not motivate our students in this way. What is our aim is to to graduate students who are entrepreneurs. By presenting a bilingual education, we bring up trilingual students. This is a real privilege for the world of business.”
Emphasizing the fact that the aim of the university is to become a world university, Ekrem Demirtaş said “We move the EXPO scholarship, which we once set out in the process of 2015 nomination, one step forward to 2020. We declared by writing to each of the representatives and embassies of the 157 countries that we may give full scholarship to one student from each of the countries. Our wish is to create a world university embodying different cultures. We accept students from every country.”
Stating that Izmir University of Economics differed significantly from other universities in that it opened some new departments that had never been opened in Turkey before Demirtaş said: “In Turkey, for the first time, Izmir University of Economics put Fashion Design, Logistics, and many departments into practice. It is then some departments showed up in these fields. We are a university that is followed and is taken as an example. We have some programs which the graduates may start working as soon as they graduate. Students start working in their own fields. In Turkey, Vocational School is not perceived as it should be. Many preferences are made towards the departments that have 4 years of education. However, Vocational School will be a very successful preference for those who want to take a very good education and pass onto the business life.”
Giving some information about the faculties and departments of İzmir University of Economics, Prof. Atilla Sezgin the Rector paid special attention to the point that in Turkey, they were one of the three foundation universities which had the Diploma Supplement Label, which is given by the European Commission. Prof. Sezgin said: “Our education quality has been enrolled by the European Commission. Students of our university have had the chance to have their MAs and PhDs, and work in any European country with this diploma. What is more is that we have been picked up as a pilot university for the Bologna Process, which is of a crucial significance for the universities. We will be the guide for the other foundation universities. As we put it in our strategic plan, we are on a very significant spot with our understanding of student-oriented education. Our mission is to create distinctness in education. We are working on it.”
