Faculty of Medicine’s pride in accreditation
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine has been awarded an accreditation certificate following a meticulous examination of numerous criteria, ranging from its teaching staff and curriculum to student feedback and physical infrastructure. The faculty, which is among a select few institutions in Turkey to receive this certificate from the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs (TEPDAD), an organization that assesses the quality of medical education in Turkey and promotes the delivery of education at international standards, has thus proven that it provides its students with world-class education.
The accreditation certificate presentation ceremony was attended by IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. İlgi Şemin, TEPDAD President Prof. Dr. İskender Sayek, former IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, along with many faculty members and students.
“THE MOMENT A DREAM COMES TRUE”
Speaking at the accreditation certificate presentation ceremony, Prof. Dr. Abacıoğlu said, “Today is a very special day. We are experiencing the moment a dream comes true. This document also brings with it the motivation and responsibility to be better as an institution. We are aware of this responsibility. We promise you that we will work even harder to do better.” Rector Abacıoğlu emphasized the pioneering role of TEPDAD President Prof. Dr. İskender Sayek in the development of a quality culture in medical education, expressing that his determined leadership was the most valuable bearer of this process.

Drawing attention to the effort put in since the establishment of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar said, “Professor Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu's vision was decisive in bringing our Faculty of Medicine to where it is today. Great effort has been expended since the establishment of our faculty. I congratulate all of you for the successful culmination of these efforts.”
“PRODUCT OF JOINT EFFORT”
IUE Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. İlgi Şemin stated that the accreditation received is a concrete indicator of the vision of excellence and continuous development in education. Prof. Dr. Şemin expressed that in the institutional culture environment created with the values defined from the very beginning of the faculty, faculty members and students reached this result together with the goal of continuous development through open communication. At the end of the ceremony, the accreditation certificate was presented to Prof. Dr. İlgi Şemin by TEPDAD President Prof. Dr. İskender Sayek.
INDICATOR OF QUALITY
TEPDAD (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs) is an organization in Turkey that independently evaluates the quality of medical faculties' education and conducts the accreditation process. The association is recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and bases its standards on international quality criteria in medical education. Therefore, TEPDAD accreditation is an internationally accepted indicator of quality that provides worldwide validity to the institution.
