Young lawyers headed to the Netherlands

Zeynep İrem Yörü and Hasan Can Özdemir, who graduated from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Law this year, have been awarded the ‘Jean Monnet’ scholarship, granted by the European Union to a select number of young people. Yörü and Özdemir will go to the Netherlands, considered one of the best countries for legal education, to pursue master's degrees for one year. Of the young lawyers, Yörü will study technology law at Tilburg University, while Özdemir will focus on international public law and human rights at Utrecht University.
Yörü and Özdemir will have the opportunity to learn from some of the world's most renowned legal scholars and expand their networks, creating new career opportunities for themselves. Their high-grade point averages, successful projects, and strong references made them stand out and deserving of the scholarship, which will cover all their educational expenses.
“MY GOAL IS CONSULTING”
Expressing her excitement and happiness about going to the Netherlands, Yörü stated that after her master's degree, she aims to provide legal consultancy to companies operating in Europe in the fields of technology law and personal data law. She highlighted that Tilburg University has particularly excelled in the areas of technology law, financial law, and economic law.
“ENGLISH EDUCATION PROVIDED AN ADVANTAGE”
Noting that the English courses she took at IUE Faculty of Law greatly contributed to her solid foundation and current success, Yörü said, “Many people attend courses to improve their legal English terminology after finishing school. However, thanks to the education I received at the faculty, I didn't need such a thing. Currently, I have no difficulties with English and legal English. Thanks to this advantage offered by my University, I can easily work in a foreign country. I am grateful to my University and my instructors in this regard.”
“I'D LIKE TO BE AN ACADEMIC AT THE NEW CAMPUS”
Emphasizing that Utrecht University is a respected and well-established institution in the field of human rights, Özdemir aims for an academic career abroad after his master's degree. Özdemir said, “First, I want to pursue a doctorate in the Netherlands, and if not there, then in Europe. I believe the master's degree I will pursue at Utrecht will greatly contribute to achieving my goal. After a career in Europe, I would very much like to serve as an academic at IUE's new campus in Güzelbahçe in the future and transfer my experiences to Turkey.”
