SUMMER SCHOOL BYLAW
Article 1-Summer school is an additional education program, which is carried out during the summer months, which are not included in the Fall and Spring semesters. It is not the third term of the academic year.
Article 2-The aims of the summer school are stated as follows:
a) To increase the productivity and the capacity of education by fully utilizing the educational capabilities of the university.
b) To take advantage of the contribution of the academicians who can only be available during the summer since they do not work in our university during the academic year.
c) To provide the students of other universities with the opportunity of attend the courses in our university.
d) To allow the students to retake the lessons that they have failed because of the deficiencies in their academic programs to help them graduate in a shorter period
e) To allow the students who wish to attend fewer lessons during the academic year to take some of their lessons during summer school
Period of Education
Article 3-The summer school cannot last less than seven weeks. Mid-terms and final exam are also included in that period. The total hours of each lesson in the summer school are the same as the total hours of the lessons in the regular academic year.
Article 4-The academic calendar of the summer school is determined by the Senate so that it can start at least two weeks after the final exams at the end of the spring term. Pre-registration and registration dates are also mentioned in the academic calendar.
Determining the Courses to Be Offered and Registration
Article 5-The undergraduate and the graduate courses of the summer school are determined by the Senate of the university following the proposal of the related faculty/ institution/ university and the determined lessons are announced by the administration of the Student Affairs in the week that follows the final exam results of the Spring term at the latest.
Article 6 -All the courses that are included in the education programs have to be opened at least once during the Fall and Spring terms. These courses cannot be postponed to the summer school programs.
Article 7 -The conditions for opening the courses of the summer school are determined by the Senate.
Article 8 -The students of the summer school can take 9 credits at most. During summer school, the students who used their right to refuse a course cannot take the refused course during summer school following the term of their refusal, but may take it in a subsequent academic year.
Article 9-Only those students who are about to be dismissed for academic failure at the end of the semester can register to the summer school. If successful at the end of the summer school, the students can continue their education.

During summer school, a student can take one of the previous term courses that s/he has never taken, has failed or the grades of which s/he wants to increase. The most recent grade is valid.
When assigning the lessons of new semester of those students who attended summer school, their summer school GPAs are taken into consideration and accordingly the related articles of the regulation are applied.
Article 11 -Students cannot add, drop or withdraw from lessons during summer school.
Achievement and Evaluation
Article 12 -Taking the related regulations of Izmir University of Economics as basis, the summer school courses are evaluated with respect to the attendance, midterm, and final grades and achievement.
Article 13-The success range of the students is determined by their spring and fall term grades. The summer school grades are included in the GPA; however, they are not taken into consideration when determining the success range.
Article 14 -The summer school grades are shown in the transcripts under the “Summer School” section. At the end of the summer school, students’ GPAs are calculated.
Article 15 (Changed : OG-13/082003- 25198) The students who fail in their final semesters and the students, whose maximum education period ends, can use their examination rights, which are included in the defined conditions of related regulations during summer school. Providing these students attend summer school, complete the required courses successfully and achieve the satisfactory GPA, they can graduate at the end of summer school.
Article 16 -The period of summer school is not included in the maximum period, which is given the students to complete their programs.
Article 17 -In the summer school, students pay their tuition fees, which are determined and announced by the Board of Trustees during registration.
Article 18 -When any circumstances are not covered by any judgments of this regulation, the rules of the related regulation of Izmir University of Economics are used.
Article 19-This directive takes effect on the date of its publication and will be applied to the students who register for summer education programs.
Article 20 -The Rector of the Izmir University of Economics implements the rules and regulations of this policy.
