‘Do Not Give Up on Vaccination’ Warning
Emphasizing that the flu vaccine is of great importance for protection against viral infections, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Kılınç, a faculty member of the Division of Chest Diseases at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine, said, “Individuals over the age of 65 must get vaccinated even if they have no underlying health conditions. We also recommend the flu vaccine for those over 18 who have chronic illnesses. Vaccination should absolutely not be given up.”
Drawing attention to the rise in illness cases with the arrival of cold winter days, Prof. Dr. Kılınç noted that complaints of a ‘prolonged cough’ can arise even after the initial illness has passed. Stressing that a lingering cough diminishes quality of life, Prof. Dr. Kılınç said, “A prolonged cough is a condition caused by the virus affecting the bronchial tubes. If a person smokes, has a pre-existing bronchial disease, or suffers from chronic issues in other organs, they are affected more severely. This leads to an increase in the intensity and duration of the cough. If left untreated, it can last for months, disrupting sleep and overall quality of life.” The program will serve as an exemplary educational model appealing to our entire country.
