Ph.D. candidates and newly graduated students (‘post-docs’) can benefit from short or long-term physical study mobility, or traineeship mobility abroad with the aim of answering their learning and education needs and providing them equal opportunities. It is also possible to add virtual mobility to physical mobility.
Within the scope of the program, short-term Ph.D. mobility can be carried out between a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 30 days. In long-term Ph.D. mobility duration should be between a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months. Long-term Ph.D. mobility can contain a complementary traineeship program and also can be implemented as blended mobility.
ERASMUS+ Ph.D mobility is carried out within the framework of the existing bilateral agreements of the higher education institution holding the Standard or Extended ERASMUS+ University Charter to exchange ERASMUS+.
The action is that the student registered in the higher education institution carries out a part of his/her education in the higher education institution abroad, which is a partner with a bilateral agreement.
Erasmus Ph.D. Mobility Selection Process and Required Documents/Minimum Requirements
Students must first meet the following minimum requirements to participate in the activity:
1. Being a full-time Ph.D. student enrolled in Izmir University of Economics, Graduate School
2. Having a minimum of 2.50/4.00 CGPA for third cycle (graduate) students

In addition to the average of success and foreign language scores, when calculating the Erasmus selection score of students who have previously benefited from higher education student or internship mobility within the scope of Erasmus+ (2014-2020 or 2021-2027) within the same education cycle, a deduction of 10 points is applied for each activity previously utilized (regardless of between study-internship distinction).
PhD students who want to apply ERASMUS+ Student mobility carried out within the scope of Erasmus+ Mobility Activities must document their English language scores, which is an application criterion.
Accordingly, students who will apply must also upload their language documents, published at https://sfl.ieu.edu.tr/ingilizce_hazirlik_programi/en/yabanci-dil-yeterligi, showing that they have met the minimum language proficiency required for doctoral programs, to the application portal.

Matters to be Considered Before Application:
- The number of students to be granted will be determined according to the ERASMUS+ score of the applicants based on Graduate School in accordance with the grant amount allocated to our University by the Turkish National Agency.
- The University and Turkish National Agency are not responsible for the difference that may occur between the candidate status in the application and the finalized selection results.
- If there is more than one application to a university, the selection will be made according to the ERASMUS+ score, regardless of the order in which the applicants prefer that university.
- You should talk to your department ERASMUS+ coordinator before you decide whether to apply for the Ph.D. Mobility or not. You can find the list of your ERASMUS+ Coordinators by department at https://ects.ieu.edu.tr/new/idari.php?id=29
- Graduate students participating in Erasmus+ and other international exchange programs can go to a partner university upon the recommendation of their Thesis Advisor, consent of the Office of the Head of Division, and the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board. No grade transfer is made for these students when they enroll to courses under the name of “Doctoral Thesis”, or “Thesis Studies” at a partner university. “P-In Progress” grade is used for these courses taken at partner university during the respective mobility semester.
- Since the local language is used as the medium of instruction in some universities, the Medium of Instruction of the university where you want to study within the scope of the ERASMUS+ program must be carefully researched before applying.
- Remember that after the grant allocation has been made, the amount of the grant that has not been used must be returned to the National Agency. This may risk the acceptance of grant increase requests by the University in the following periods.
- Students studying abroad within the scope of the Erasmus+ program pay the tuition fees for that semester to IUE according to the dates specified in the academic calendar. They do not pay tuition fees to the university abroad. However, all expenses such as accommodation, transportation, personal expenses, nutrition, health insurance are the responsibility of the student.
- The students who will benefit from the Erasmus+ Mobility for Studies, should check the academic calendar of the universities which they wish to choose. The students should make their choices in a way that will not affect the period they will continue at IUE.
- Students bear all responsibility for not being able to register for courses at IUE after returning from the partner universities, exceeding the period of absence from classes, and affecting their academic success as a result of the academic calendar of IUE and the partner university being incompatible.
- It is possible for the activity to start physically during the pandemic period and then turn into virtual mobility depending on the conditions of the pandemic and the decisions of the countries/institutions.
