European and Turkish Youth Discussed Turkey’s EU Membership
The European and Turkish students from Slovenia University of Ljubljana, The Netherlands Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, France HEC-Paris, Greece University of Athens and Turkey Izmir University of Economics got together by video conference method in the scope of this international project. The look of the European youth to the membership process of Turkey, the thoughts of the Turkish youth about EU relations are discussed in the video conference hosted by American College. Izmir base of the project is executed by Izmir University of Economics Innovative Entrepreneurship Center. EKOGİRİŞİM (Innovative Entrepreneurship Center) Manager Asst. Prof. Gonca Günay gave some information about the project and stated that the aim of the project is to share the perception of the both sides and to develop intercultural apprehension in the integration of European Union – Turkey. Günay said “In this project, it is aimed to get students know each other, to share their perceptions, to discover different ways of understanding the other, to share intercultural business ideas and to develop these ideas”
During the video conference, upon the expression of a Dutch student saying that European Union countries are anxious about the rise of the Muslim population in Europe, Izmir University of Economics Erasmus student Slovenian Klemen Praprotnik said “I am Christian. My best friends in here are Muslim. I also have Turkish friends belonging to different religions. I have not encountered any problems because of my religion. I believe that it is meaningless to see religion as a handicap for Turkey to enter European Union. I think that Turkey deserves membership more than many other European Union countries.”
One of the business ideas chosen after video conferences and correspondences continuing in the forums will be awarded.
