GLOBAL POWER OF DESIGN AT IZMIR ECONOMICS!
Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design became a member of Cumulus Platform, a worldwide platform for media, art & design universities. IUE will be participating in international studies with its partners in the platform which has members on a wide spectrum of countries including America, Australia, China, and South Korea. IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design will be the first university from Aegean Region to become a member of the platform, whose Secretariat is located in Helsinki, Finland, and promote Izmir in the area of design to the whole world.
Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that the platform offered many improvements, and it would increase academician and student exchange as well. Prof. Dr. Bulgun said, “The platform hold biannual conferences for prospective members. Our membership was approved during the conference we attended in England. We represented both our country and the University there. We promoted the University, we talked about our activities. We even printed our activities on a table cloth which attracted great attention during our presentation.”
‘Better projects’
Prof. Dr. Bulgun reported that the main purpose of the platform was to increase and serve art and design education and research, and that it was a forum for partnership and transfer of knowledge and best practices. The platform also allowed posting for academician positions, said Bulgun. She said that the platform enabled to have access to staff of institutions, and meeting with academicians from different fields of work. “Member universities find an opportunity to develop international projects with graduate schools of design. We will be able to organize integrated exchange programs with Erasmus. This is a major step for promoting Izmir. Our projects will get better with international partners,” Prof. Dr. Bulgun.
