ERGOBABY IS BORN

Feyzi Aras, sophomore student at Izmir University of Economics, Department of Industrial Design, came in first place at Automotive Design Contest organized by Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association by designing a hidden car seat for babies.
Feyzi Aras pointed out that there were 750 projects at the keen competition with only 293 of them competing in student category. He said, “Ergobebek (Ergo baby) is secretly located in the mid-section of the backseat of cars. It is easily pulled out when needed. If there’s no baby on board that day, and more passengers need to sit at the back, you can easily push the seat back in its hidden location.” Aras, who stated that he was especially interested in the subject after car seats became an obligation in vehicles in Turkey, indicated that the safest place for babies was specially designed car seats in the middle section of the cars.
Feyzi Aras stated that since car seats did not have a long use, it became an issue for guest babies travelling in the car. He said, “I was very concerned about babies in our country where the statistics on deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents exceeded even the figures in post war countries. Our creation, entrepreneurship, sense of social responsibility, and sensitivity always became a priority during our education at Izmir University of Economics. I am very honoured to be deemed worthy of such an award by professionals.”
