INTERNATIONAL TERROR AND TURKEY ARE DISCUSSED AT IUE
Specialist on both Middle East and terror, Dr. Nihat Ali Özcan from Turkish Economics Policies Research Foundation, Ankara and journalist, researcher, scriptwriter Ömer Lütfi Mete from Istanbul and Assoc. Prof. M.Murat Hatipoğlu from Izmir University of Economics attended the panel as speakers.
Assoc. Prof. M.Murat Hatipoğlu, who was also the chairperson of the panel, conveyed very important information about the historical and human geography of Middle East. Later on, Dr. Nihat Ali Özcan shared his knowledge about the structure, resources, aims and objectives of terror, and the methods of struggling with terror. Özcan pointed out that terror was used as a foreign policy vehicle, and said “PKK is not merely Turkey’s problem. It is an international problem. The worst kind of terror is grant aided terrorism.”
Journalist-researcher Ömer Lütfi Mete conveyed his experiences about Southeast Anatolia, North of Iraq and terror. Mete stated that Turkish nation had a strong background and a profound historical experience, so that terror, which is used as a vehicle by the foreign forces, cannot reach its aim. Mete said, “There is one solution of terror. That is to repress. No other way can save the country from chaos.”
At the end of the panel Faculty of Science and Literature Dean Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu thank to the participants and gave plaquette and presents.
