IUE’s TUBITAK pride: 5 projects, 5 Supports

Securing a strong place in the scientific world with its research-oriented studies, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has earned support from TUBITAK for 5 new projects. Drawing attention with projects in diverse fields such as health, engineering, genetics, and sociology, IUE has become one of the few universities in Turkey with 5 or more projects accepted nationwide. The studies, which will be completed within 3 years, will make a difference on both national and international scales, shedding light on the scientific world.
CONTRIBUTION TO LEUKEMIA TREATMENT
Asst. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Kiraz Durmaz, faculty member of the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, is among those awarded a grant under the TUBITAK 1001 program. She will conduct comprehensive cell-level research aimed at contributing to the development of new drugs and treatment methods against leukemia, also known as blood cancer. Prof. Dr. Hayriye Özen from the Department of Sociology will examine social responses to renewable energy plants. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Sağlam, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will work on increasing efficiency in energy storage technologies by using high-dielectric nanomaterials in nanofiber structures. This will also support more effective use of renewable energy systems.
“WE WILL CONTINUE WITH INNOVATIVE PROJECTS”
Stating that as a University, they see scientific research and project-based studies as the cornerstone of academic development, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu, “The fact that 5 of our projects have been granted support under the TUBITAK 1001 program is a concrete indicator of this vision. These projects clearly demonstrate our interdisciplinary work culture, the quality of our academic staff, and the importance we place on research. We have taken an important step in our journey to secure a stronger place for our University in the national and international scientific community. I wholeheartedly congratulate all academics who contributed to this success. As a University, we will decisively continue to support research and innovative projects, and to contribute to scientific production.”
