IUE Academics are ready for distance education with Teaching and Learning Center-TLC

IUE Teaching and Learning Center (TLC - Ekoeğitim), which played a major role in the success of distance education of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) with intense effort and support after the transition to distance education in Turkey in March due to Covid-19 pandemic, continues its preparations for the new academic year.
Support will be provided for academics and part-time instructors on educational technologies and their applications in higher education, with synchronous sessions until October 13. With the awareness of the different dynamics required by distance education, an asynchronous training course titled "Effective Teaching", which covers the pedagogical principles and methods needed by academics in teaching design, was made accessible to all faculty members.
Dr. Esin Çağlayan, Director of IUE Teaching and Learning Reserach and Application Center, pointed out that they act with the understanding of excellence in education and provide information about the use of rich educational technologies of the University and about alternative applications during distance education.
Training courses will guide the teaching staff
Stating that the academics showed great interest in the sessions, Dr. Çağlayan said, “We aim to make our teaching staff adapt to the new semester more easily with synchronous training courses. Likewise, we opened the asynchronous 'Effective Teaching' course in modules, which can be followed by instructors at their own pace. With this training, we aim to enable them to refresh their knowledge and understand the important points that need to be considered in online trainings, unlike face-to-face training, thus increasing distance learning efficiency. This training course, which will remain open throughout the semester, can also be defined as a guide that our teaching staff can always refer to.”
Dr. Çağlayan said that they will continue to provide in-service training support periodically throughout the academic year.
