PRESIDENT OF REPUBLIC MEHMET ALI TALAT TALKED ABOUT THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS
President of Republic Mehmet Ali Talat stated that Greek Populated Southern Cyprus wanted to drag out the case and take it to another dimension and said “We are in overall negotiation process. That means we are carrying out discussions with all elements of the negotiation. As the Turkish part, we want it to conclude with two nations formed in 40 years by UN (United Nations), in the framework of federal structure with two nations. However, the Greek side wants to deflect it. They support an unacceptable thesis like converting Greek State into a federal state in time. They put it into words by signing an agreement with England and later with Russia. They feel free while doing these because they are EU member, their economy is fine, and they do not need a solution as much as we do. We are isolated, we suffer. They act slowly.”
President of Republic Mehmet Ali Talat who emphasized the fact that Greek Cypriot wanted to execute a negotiation process without a referee and calendar said “A negotiation process without a referee and calendar cannot be successful. We reacted to it. We will not accept a structure apart from political equality and federal structure with two nations. For this, we want ‘Virgin Birth’ principle to be executed, that means we do not want existing states but a new state that includes them. The Greeks want to transform it into an unacceptable demand such as changing Greek Republic of Cyprus into a federal structure. They want to identify the relation of two nations. We talk with the leaders too. However, the Greek leader goes to England, Russia and Greece and says different things.”
President of Republic Mehmet Ali Talat said that they will never give up Turkey as a guarantor and continued to his speech “We want the negotiation process to come to a successful conclusion. However, we want it to do it without giving up our vital demands like political equality between two countries, numeric closeness in the representation in the institutions, the protection of two parts and two societies, determining the new country by a referendum that will be conducted in two parts, continuation of guarantee and alliance agreements, regarding the conflicts in the agreement as the first law of the EU and we want to be freed from the intrigues of the Greek part and quicken it.”
President of Republic Mehmet Ali Talat answered the questions of the students at the end of the conference and İzmir University of Economics Board of Trustees President Ekrem Demirtaş and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin presented a plaquet to Talat.
