SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT TO IZMIR FILM “KARNAVAL” FROM IUE

Izmir University of Economics became a sponsor to the film Karnaval, which is considered to be an overall “Izmir film”. The film is the first feature film by the young director Can Kılcıoğlu. The premiere of the film was held at Karaca Theatre to meet with the audience where the film crew also attended to support EÇEV (Aegean Contemporary Education Foundation).
The producer Doğa Kılcıoğlu Esen (Delice Film), pointed out that Izmir University of Economics contributed greatly to the film, and she said, “Izmir University of Economics helped us with accommodation issue while shooting our film about Izmir. The whole crew came from Istanbul. I believe such support has great importance. I once again felt the warm welcome of Izmir and its people as being one of them. On top of that, students of IUE Faculty of Communication supported us greatly during the shooting of the film. They were well-equipped, well trained young people. I wish for them to graduate and enter the film world at once.”
Director Can Kılcıoğlu emphasized that he paid his duty of loyalty to Izmir, and he wanted Izmirians to stake a claim on the film Karnaval. Tayman Tekin is the cinematographer, and Aslı Dabak and Barış Yıkılmaz are the art directors, and Çiçek Kahraman is the film editor. Okan Kaya composed the music for the film where Serdar Orçin and Tülin Özen are featuring, and İpek Bilgin, Sait Genay, Vedat Erincin supporting.
The movie shooting, which was also supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism- General Directorate for Cinema and Izmir Development Agency, took place in Izmir last year. The film is a romantic comedy between Ali Sinan, working as a door-to-door salesman for carpet cleaners, and Demet, a strong and brave woman working in his father’s wedding hall. Karnaval began to play in 17 movie theatres in 7 cities.
