ÖMER LÜTFİ AKAD WAS COMMEMORATED BY HIS FILMS

Notable film director Ömer Lütfü Akad, “doyen” of Turkish Cinema who passed away last week, was commemorated at Izmir University of Economics.
Ömer Lütfi Akad, who was a pioneer in transitioning from theatre technique to film technique, was commemorated by collective film screening organized by Faculty of Communication. In 1949, he debuted as a film director with “Vurun Kahpeye” ("Strike the Whore") and became one of the pioneers of the period in the "Director Generation". Some of his unforgettable movies “Gelin” (“The Bride”), “Vurun Kahpeye” ("Kill the Whore"), and “Vesikalı Yarim” (“Licensed Lover”) met with the students. Academic and administrative personnel also took interest in the film screening which took place at the Movie Hall of Faculty of Communication in memory of Ömer Lütfi Akad who earned his place as a great director of Turkish cinema with his 44 movies.
