Great Support for Student Projects
32 students from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) have been awarded grants under the ‘2209’ program, which is run by TUBITAK to encourage young people to engage in scientific studies. The IUE students will conduct research and development work for a year in various fields such as artificial intelligence, software, healthcare, and electronics, and will be able to benefit from support of up to 12,000 Liras for each project they prepare. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu said, “We attach great importance to our students taking part in scientific production processes and turning their ideas into concrete outputs. We will further strengthen the research and project ecosystem that prevails at our University with the support of TUBITAK.”
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) meticulously completed its evaluations among thousands of applications made across the country to determine the students entitled to receive support. Aiming to enable young people to gain experience by working together with their academics in fields they are interested in, TUBITAK took many criteria into account, such as the quality and feasibility of the project.
THEY WILL WORK TOGETHER
A total of 32 students from the IUE Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Business, Vocational School, School of Applied Management Sciences, and Vocational School of Health Services succeeded in receiving grants. The students of Izmir Economics will complete their research projects, conducted in fields they are interested in and wish to develop themselves, under the guidance of their academics. The grant support provided by TUBITAK to increase the scientific productivity of young people could exceed 350,000 Liras in total.
“DEMONSTRATES THE POWER OF THE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT”
Stating that they work to prepare students for business life in the best possible way, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu said, “In today's world, the duty expected of universities is not only to equip young people with professional knowledge, but also to raise them with scientific thought, innovation, and problem-solving skills. The fact that our students develop projects in many different fields, from artificial intelligence to software, from healthcare to electronics, reveals how strong the interdisciplinary perspective and the productive academic environment are at our University.”
“IT LIES AT THE CENTER OF OUR VISION”
Expressing that they see research and innovation at the center of the University's development vision, Prof. Dr. Abacıoğlu said, “We have established a structure that encourages students to produce projects and where our academics guide them with their knowledge base. We continue to support our students with all our academic units, especially the Project Development and Technology Transfer Office. In the coming period, we will continue to further strengthen a university ecosystem where our students are included in research processes; where they turn their ideas into projects, and their projects into outputs that generate value for our country and humanity.”
“WE OFFER STRONG GUIDANCE”
Onur Kanyılmaz, Director of the IUE Project Development and Technology Transfer Office, stated that they offer strong academic guidance to students during the project development process. Kanyılmaz said, “TUBITAK programs offer highly valuable opportunities for our students to get introduced to scientific research. For a student to develop a project idea in their own field of interest, place this idea within an academic framework, determine a method, and carry their project to the implementation stage makes a very important contribution to their personal and academic development. In this process, students learn many skills by experiencing them firsthand, such as analytical thinking, planning, literature review, data collection, and teamwork.”
