COMMUNICATION, CULTURE AND POWER FROM DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS
Prof. Dr. Volker Hinnekamp from Fuld University Germany, Assoc. Prof. Christian Christensen from Karlstad University Sweden, Assoc. Prof. Nuran Erol Işık, Asst. Prof. Zafer Yörük and İbrahim Cansızoğlu from IUE were the speakers of the panel. Nearly 100 people, most of whom were students watched the panel with great interest.
Assoc. Prof. Nuran Erol Işık who made the first presentation in the panel made a speech that included the analysis of the movie “Mustafa” directed by Can Dündar. Asst. Prof. Zafer Yörük who made a speech entitled “Post-Kemalism and Cinema” after Assoc. Prof. Işık pointed out that Turkey was in the process of a transmission to a post-Kemalist period and discussed the reflection of the process to cinema which is a cultural production platform. The third speaker of the panel Prof. Dr. Volker Hinnekamp coming from Fulda University shared his research about the hybrid language used in “chat” environments in internet by new generation Turkish immigrants in Germany.
Assoc. Prof. Christian Christensen told the effect of the propaganda made through internet sites like ‘Twitter’ and ‘Facebook’ in 2009 general elections in Iran. Assoc. Prof. Christensen also told about internet’s potential of becoming repression mechanism in the hands of governing powers as well as its democratic potential. The last speaker of the panel İbrahim Cansızoğlu made an analysis of the movie entitled “Afterschool” written and directed by Antonio Compos.
