PROF. DR. FUAT KEYMAN: İZMİR DOES NOT HAVE AN EXCUSE…
Prof. Dr. Keyman stated that with the globalization in the world, alongside with national state concept, globalizing cities came to the forefront and said, “There are some criteria for the development, globalization of a city. These are; technology, entrepreneurship and perception, inhabitability should be together. If the cultural ability, entertainment and the opportunity of different identities and groups to live together in a city, economical movements, entrepreneurship can unite and create a harmony, this means that this city is developing and globalizing.”
Prof. Dr. Keyman emphasized the fact that when considered from this point of view, İzmir had many positive sides. He said, “In order for a city to globalize, 6 factors should act together towards the same target. These are; municipality, chambers of commerce and industry, universities, non-governmental organizations, young businesspersons and woman entrepreneurs, and local press. When looked at İzmir, we can immediately see their presence and affects. The powers, which we gathered under six titles, can act with a common target and take along the national state. Because in Turkey today, it is hard for the cities to develop and globalize without taking support from the national state. Since İzmir could not turn its positive sides into benefits, it fell behind Eskişehir especially in culture and inhabitability. İzmir needs to make up for its lacking parts and develop by featuring entrepreneurship.”
