MEDIA-POLITICS-POLITICAL POWER RELATIONSHIP IS DISCUSSED AT IUE (2)
IUE instructor Tuğrul Yılmaz stated that the relations between the political power and media were always up-and-down but this was reveled recently. He said, “Whatever the opinion of the journalist is, s/he must be very deliberate even when his/her opinion comes to power. S/he has to see the mistakes, errors of the political power. However, the min reason why we are in this state today is that the journalists do not have a union. Due to the relations of the media bosses with the political power, the journalists lost their ability to act freely. The guillotine of losing their jobs was always above their head.”
Sabah Newspaper columnist Mahmut Övür emphasized the fact that the media was divided into two as the supporters and opponents and that created serious problems. He said, “Even though the newspapers or the televisions of the masses seem to be a supporter or the opponent, this will not last long. Because, if you support a certain opinion or the political power, you lose the masses. If you act objectively and tell this to the public properly, you continue to appeal to it. In Ergenekon case, instead of the view that the Government should avoid these kinds of wrong formations, if you look only with a political point of view and act as if nothing happened you move away from objectivity.”
Radikal Newspaper columnist Haluk Şahin stated that the media-political power relation was the same in everywhere in the world and said, “Even it differs from country to country, nearly the same formations or the wars are being experienced. However, this is different in our country. That is that the leader of the political power, the Prime minister of this country aims at a certain group and says 'Do not buy these newspapers, do not read them'. A citizen can use his/her democratic rights and do this, but a Prime Minister of a country cannot do this. So this puts our country to a different place in the world. The polarization is really sharp in here."
