NASUH MAHRUKİ TALKED ABOUT SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Nasuh Mahruki emphasized the importance of NGOs, Non Governmental Organizations and said “There are many establishments in this scope. These include the chambers, associations and unions. However most of these are established by laws. Non governmental organiations are the ones that are totally independent. The ones like AKUT, AÇEV are based on voluntariness and they achieve success with social solidarity. It is heartbreaking but its importance came to the fore after the earthquake on August 17, 1999. The organized and disciplined work of AKUT there changed many things. While AKUT grew stronger public and private sector began to establish such things.”
Nasuh Mahruki stated that the best example of it was the Foundations and that the world learned such kind of solidarity and organization from Seljuks and Ottomans. He said “The Ottoman Empire that dominated nearly the half of the world executed this system very well. These kinds of organizations that we behold in our genes unfortunately lost many things with 1980 revolution. The pressure and politic structure of that time made it harder for such NGOs to be established. With 1999 earthquake and AKUT this process began again. NGOs became active in the cases that the government was inefficient. The independent structure of NGOs that is isolated from the policies of the governments served as a model for modernization and solidarity of the society. And it brought the idea “What can I do” instead of “The governments should do it”.
