MORE COMFORTABLE WAY TO DEAL WITH TRAVEL FATIGUE
Extended waiting at airports is no longer a hassle. Ece Mercan, student from Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed a sleeping capsule for airports. Particularly, passengers, who have long stopover times or experience extended waiting, will be able to use “Napport”, the sleeping capsule, for sleeping and relaxation, working, or changing clothes.
Ece Mercan, who gave information about her project, said that sometimes the stopovers lasted up to 1-4 hours and more, and she wanted to create a special space for those who want to rest or work during that time at the airports. “For stopovers extending more than 4 hours, the airline companies have to arrange accommodation for passengers. So, those, who don’t want to leave the premises, can use the sleeping capsule as an alternative. In this sleeping capsule that I designed for students particularly, there is audio warning about flight departures. Passengers need to download the application from the napport site or from their phones and make the reservation. Users have easy access via their account profiles and use the system,” said Mercan.
‘How does it work?’
Mercan reported that after the officials confirm the reservation, the passenger is given a set of clean bedding, and has to scan the QR code on the capsule. Once, the passenger is done using the capsule, it is cleaned and prepared for the next passenger.
