THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LOGISTICS SECTOR CAME TOGETHER AT IUE
Izmir University of Economics Department of Logistics continues to host the leading representatives of logistics sector at the University. With the cooperation with International Forwarding Association a panel about “Land Carriage – Logistics Relation” took place at Izmir University of Economics. Ministry of Transport Transportation Regional Director Ömer Tekin, UND Steering Board Member Alper Özel, UND Board of Directors Member Mehmet Çelikca attended the panel as speakers in which Izmir University of Economics Vice Rector and Logistics Management Head Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu was the moderator. Besides, in the panel that Izmir University of Economics Department of Logistics Lecturers Asst. Prof. Öznur Yurt, Asst. Prof. Burcu Adıvar and Asst. Prof. Özgür Özpeynirci were the speakers, Land Transportation, Problems, Logistics Management Education in the World and in Turkey are discussed.
UND Steering Board Member Alper Özel stated that the strategic aim in the logistics sector was to make Turkey a global logistics base in the near future and said, “For this purpose, singular reforms like modernization of the customs must be supported by the redevelopments in the whole supply chain, border procedures must be in coordination with other related institutions, the physical infrastructures must be improved by telecommunication and IT, the process of the competitive private services like land transportation, custom agents, and warehousing must be made simpler, red tape must be prevented in issues like especially foreign trade and logistics services. “
Özel pointed out that the sector that employed 400 thousand people with its sub sectors provided 3 Billion Dollars income for the national economy.
