GETTING COOL WILL BE LESS COSTLY!
Trying to cool spaces such as homes, offices, shopping centres and metro during the hot days of summer will be more economical. With TUBITAK smart cooling system development project, coordinated by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), 10% of energy efficiency will be provided for the first time. Turkish economy will save more than 2 billion TL with an efficiency adjustment to heating-cooling system it spends 24 billion TL on thanks to an electronic card formed by applying control algorithms.
The Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Güzeliş, IUE Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, stated that researchers from Ege and Izmir Kâtip Çelebi Universities also participated in this industry directed study. Prof. Dr. Güzeliş said, "The project is about developing a cooling system but developing a smart cooling system. It has a significant place in consumption of electric energy. Our purpose is to provide efficiency in heating and cooling area where we consume 40%. We came up with an electronic card, and thanks to this card, we will be providing over 10% energy efficiency”.
'Significant Contribution to the Economy'
Prof. Dr. Güzeliş stated that they came up with successful outcomes in theoretical and applied experimental researches at the same time and he indicated that Turkey had a total of 60 billion TL in electric expenditure. He said that TESTA was the customer organization in the project, and with the help of the sensors the cool air was measured and it was transmitted to the card as an electrical signal. Prof. Dr. Güzeliş stated the following:
"The main component of a cooling system is the compressor which consumes 80% of the electric energy. We assign a control signal with the electronic card in order to change the compressor speed. While doing this, we use the signals we receive with the help of sensors from different points, not from the output of the system only. This way, we will be increasing the energy efficiency of the heating-cooling systems. Thus, decreasing the electric expenses significantly at large areas such as metro, shopping centres, etc.”
