WE NEED TO ENCOURAGE THE NEW GENERATION

Prof. Dr. Seeram Ramakrishna, the founding Co-Director of National University of Singapore (NUS) Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, stated that Turkey had a very young population and the new generations needed positive guidance to become socially beneficial individuals.
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who leads researches in different disciplines on purifying water, converting sunlight into electricity, renewing cells, gave a conference on innovation as a guest speaker at Izmir University of Economics. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna mentioned that Turkey made a significant progress in the last 10 years, and he said, “Reforms are very important for a country. The youth need to take role in these reform studies. These will also regulate the socio-economic aspect of Turkey. They will create new opportunities for the young population. They may cause better communication tools to come out. They may benefit from the innovations in nanotechnology area. As Turkey develops, people will ask for a better quality of life.”
New generation new method
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who indicated that the new generation had a different learning method, and these different learning methods needed to be encouraged, stated that the problem in that area resulted from the old generations not improving themselves. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna said, “The young generations need to transfer their learning methods to the old generations. For example, they also need to transfer the new generation type of information to the population in rural areas. People in rural areas are surprisingly hungry for learning, therefore they need changes. Old generations always believe the new generations are worse than them. We need to accept the new methods. In this way, we can make them become socially beneficial individuals. If we guide them, they will become socially beneficial. It is also the case in Singapore, Taiwan, and rest of the world, not only in Turkey. Young people are using new tools. And they do it very successfully. If we motivate them, we will have a much better environment.”
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna also stated that the media had a major role in motivating the young people. He said the new generation internalized the information. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who pointed out that Turkey progressed in many fields, said that Turkey had farmer communities, and food products such as olives, figs, etc. growing in Izmir, would provide great benefits in using technology and providing input in economics if they are processed with technological developments.
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna also stated that education systems were experiencing changes worldwide. He said that the universities worked on new concepts, and IUE faculty members needed to be in touch with the students in different parts of Turkey. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna said, “Some internet based programs, which we call online programs, enable access through videos. That way, we can reach out to many people. Turkey has a very young population. This new population needs to have ideas on world, education, and how to make reforms. Izmir University of Economics needs to integrate with the world in this way.”
Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who is the founding Co-Director of National University of Singapore (NUS) Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, leads researchers from different disciplines on purifying water, converting sunlight into electricity and storing in accumulators, renewing cells. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who has published 5 books and received the most attributions in international academic listings, provides counselling to researchers and technology companies from 20 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, and Africa. Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, who studies patches that function as heart cells which got damaged by using nanofibers that contain melanin, also gives conferences on higher education, scientific research, innovations, trends, and strategies. He delivers his unique opinions and approaches on this subject at forums held by organizations such as the World Bank, European Union, OECD, and ASEAN.
