IUE WILL MAKE A BREAKTHROUGH IN HEALTH WITH EŞREFPAŞA HOSPITAL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will start its journey in the field of health with Eşrefpaşa Hospital. IUE Faculty of Medicine, which is waiting for an approval from YOK (Higher Education Council) to admit students, and prospective health managers to be trained by Faculty of Health Sciences, will take first steps of their careers in Eşrefpaşa Hospital. Based on the protocol signed between Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, Rector of Izmir University of Economics, and Pervin Şenel Genç, Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the future doctors and health managers will be trained at Eşrefpaşa Hospital. Prof. Dr. Çağ Çal, Lecturer at IUE Department of Health Management, and Bora İrer, Chief Physician of Eşrefpaşa Hospital, were also present at the signing ceremony for protocol along with Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu and Genç.
Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu stated that IUE was the first Foundation University of the Aegean Region and they wanted to continue their success graph of 12 years in medicine as well. He said, “We got the approval to establish Faculty of Medicine. We are planning to admit students next year. We place emphasis on applied education. Therefore, we are going to collaborate with Eşrefpaşa Hospital, one of the most long-established hospitals of Izmir. The students of Faculty of Health Sciences, who are admitted for the first time this year, will receive their training in health management here as well. Students will perform their summer internships and some of their applied courses throughout the semester in this hospital. They will be trained by doctors. Students in Elderly Care and Medical Documentation programs will also be trained here.”
Pervin Şenel Genç, Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, also pointed out that they were honoured to collaborate with a successful institution such as Izmir University of Economics. She said, “This project is very significant. The old and the young are hand in hand. We feely greatly honoured that the only municipality hospital of Turkey, which we dote on as the Metropolitan Municipality, made collaboration with Izmir University of Economics. We have scored another point. Soon we are going to sign a similar protocol with Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home for the Elderly Care Program.”
Prof. Dr. Çağ Çal, Lecturer at IUE Department of Health Management, who said that they would not try to save the day but work on to contemplate, stated the following:
“We are not going to work to save the day but to contemplate to do new things. This is where Eşrefpaşa Hospital and Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home step in. We try to find the best and collaborate with the ones with best functioning systems. Eşrefpaşa Hospital provides second scale health services to citizens; it is a fully-equipped hospital. It is a very qualified enterprise. It provides a devoted service. We are taking the first step this year. Our students will learn the requirements of their professions, and get practice at Eşrefpaşa Hospital and Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home. Our collaboration will continue even when we establish our own hospital.”
Prof. Dr. Çal also stated that the protocol they signed with Eşrefpaşa Hospital would be in effect until 2019, and both institutions would blend their practice and academic resources, and offer them for the benefit of Izmir public.
