THE WORLD IS RUNNING OUT OF ENERGY
President of the Board of Directors of PETFORM Nusret Cömert, BP Gas Group (London) International Government and Corporate Affairs Director Mehmet Öğütçü and World Energy Council Turkish National Committee Board of Directors Member Necdet Pamir attended the symposium as speakers. IUE Research and Graduate Policies Director, Former Presidential Energy Consultant Prof. Dr. Volkan Ş. Ediger was the moderator of the symposium.
President of the Board of Directors of PETFORM Nusret Cömert underlined the increase in the energy demand in the world and indicated that the one third of the energy demand in the world in 2005 was made by India and China. Cömert stated that he was expecting the population of the world to become more than 9 billion and said, “The world’s population which was 2.5 billion 50 years ago is now nearly 9 billion. This means that the energy need of the world increases day by day. However, a serious investment is needed in order to supply energy. Petrol and natural gas take the lead in energy. The condition of the petroleum reserves is evident. This means the reemerge of the nuclear energy.”
In the symposium, the condition of the energy in the world is presented and the things done and the things that had to be done in Turkey are discussed.
