‘Summer school’ opportunity for young people who want to study abroad

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will offer a ‘summer school’ to support high school students who aim to receive their undergraduate education at a university abroad after graduation. 45 students will be admitted to the summer school, which will be opened on August 14-25 with the support of Izmir Yeni Nesil Eğitim Kurumları (education institution). The medium of instruction will be English in the summer school, where students will be trained on "Artificial Organ Technologies", "Sustainable Economy" and "Sustainable Finance". Young people, who will receive their certificates after completing the summer school, will increase their chances of being accepted by universities in Europe and the United States (USA).
Students, who want to participate in the High School Summer School Program on IUE's campus in Balçova, can apply at https://ekosem.ieu.edu.tr/tr/izmir-ekonomi-universitesi-lise-yaz-okulu until August 1. Students will be able to attend any of 3 different trainings. The trainings will take place on the weekdays at 10.00 to 17.00. The introductory meeting for the High School Summer School Program was held at the IUE Conference Hall with the participation of families and students. The trainers Prof. Dr. Ayla Oğuş Binatlı, Head of IUE Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Coşkun Küçüközmen, Lecturer at Department of International Trade and Finance, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Burçak Alp, Lecturer at Department of Biomedical Engineering, answered the questions that young people were curious about.
EMPHASIS ON ’WORLD CITIZENSHIP’
Speaking at the meeting, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, who stated that with the development of technology, communication between countries and individuals has increased and information has spread at a dizzying pace, said, “Cultural interaction, international cooperation and global goals in education lead us to the concept of 'world citizenship'. This is such a process that knowing one foreign language is not enough. It is very important to gain the right skills, equipment, experience and ability to adapt to the world. In the competitive environment of the 21st century, the way to become a world citizen is to acquire an academic education at international standards and life skills that embrace universal values. We designed this summer school program to support young people's initiative to become world citizens and to help them on their way to study abroad.”
A VERY IMPORTANT STEP
Prof. Dr. Aşkar continued as follows: “As technology develops, new generation learning styles and education models are changing rapidly accordingly. By pushing the limits of knowledge with their dreams, students with the opportunity also lead the change as creative, free-thinking, questioning, designing and producing individuals. Thanks to this summer school program, students will start this change process at Izmir University of Economics. By enrolling in the undergraduate program they have dreamed of, they will take an important step towards growing up as a good world citizen.”
CORRECT AND USEFUL INFORMATION
Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Director of IUE Continuing Education Center, “Universities should be in a structure that focuses on innovation, produces and develops knowledge, is open to use at any time of the day, and develops original and creative thinking in students. While we were creating the summer school program, we did not just plan to transfer knowledge to students. We have designed educational content that will enable them to perceive, assimilate and personalize information. The truth of the matter is to access the correct and useful information wherever it is. This can be in the country you live in, or it can be in a country abroad where you want to go to study. The summer school will make a great contribution to young people who want to study abroad.”
