DANGER IN OUR POCKETS!
Mobile phones, which have become an indispensable part of our daily lives, pose a significant health threat to our kids by increasing the risk of developing hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder. The experts strongly indicate that brains of growing children especially are extremely sensitive to radio frequency radiation, and they suggest keeping the conversations short and plugging in earphones while talking.
Türkan Alkan Özbay, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, stated smart phones, tablets, Bluetooth headphones all made our lives easier but they do have drawbacks — the most significant being that they emit radiation and can therefore negatively impact our health. Özbay said, “We adapted to the technology rapidly. We embraced each and every one of these products and put them in the center of our lives. But this equipment spread electromagnetic radiation which turns into a health danger.”
The World Health Organization has classified mobile phones as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”, said Özbay and she continued, “Recently there has been an enormous increase in psychological diseases such as panic attacks, depression, and obsession, etc. and organic brain syndromes such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The further away it is from your body, the less power of the antenna signal reaches you. Therefore, always try to keep it a few inches away from your body, and use headphones. Also, keep the duration of conversations at minimum and do not allow young children to use mobile phones.”
Özbay pointed that the use of mobile phones has increased very rapidly over the last 10-15 years, and she said that electronic equipment should not be handed over to kids as toys. “Brains of growing children are extremely sensitive to radio frequency radiation. There is an also increased risk of developing hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder,” said Özbay.
Özbay suggested that the phone should be kept away from the body after the numbers are dialed since the signal connection is at its maximum during that time. She also said that mobile phones should not be kept in bedrooms and in children’s rooms. Özbay said, “Turn the phone off while you are sleeping or place it at least a meter away from the bedside. Reducing time spent with equipment such as computers, tablets, modems, TV, which propagate electromagnetic waves, would also help reduce the prevalence of health problems in the long run.”
