CLEAN WATER FOR STRAY ANIMALS WITH “LOTUS”

The stray animals will have clean water during the hottest days of summer with “Lotus”. İrem Kaval, Senior at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, pays back both to the nature and animals with a clay water bowl that sge got inspired by lotus flower.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of the Board of Trustees, was very interested in the design of the senior student as she introduced her project. President Demirtaş, pointed out that importance of such meaningful designs for stray animals which are both aesthetical and eco-friendly. Kaval, who mentioned that the water stayed clean and cool because it was made up of clay, said, “This is a product intended for stray animals to get clean drinking water. Lotus can accumulate rain water, or people can add water from their bottles. If the water at the bottom part drops down below a certain level, the top part dispenses water, so there is always water to drink. And since it is made up of clay, water stays clean and cool all the time.”
‘Plastics cause environmental pollution’
Kaval indicated that she designed a natural, clean, and one hundred percent recyclable material which will not harm the nature when broken. She said that plastic bowls left in the streets caused environmental pollution. “In addition to causing environmental pollution, the plastic bowls left for stray animals to drink water get dirty because they are left open. Animals have right to clean water as well,” said Kaval.
