Izmir University of Economics in the 'World League'
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has achieved a major milestone by ranking in the 401–600 band globally in the impact rankings announced by Times Higher Education (THE), a UK-based higher education evaluation platform. Securing its place on a list featuring 1,646 universities from 116 countries, and leaving many internationally recognized higher education institutions behind, IUE ranked first among foundation universities in the Aegean Region and 8th overall in Turkey. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu said, “These results clearly demonstrate that our educational quality, academic productivity, research capacity, and global vision are growing even stronger. We will continue to work and produce to achieve the absolute best in the light of science, innovation, and quality education.”
Times Higher Education, one of the world's most prestigious evaluation organizations, has announced its university sustainability impact rankings for 2026. Izmir University of Economics ranked third in Turkey among foundation universities in the ‘No Poverty’ category, and positioned itself at 7th place nationwide in the ‘Gender Equality’ category. Having also won first place in the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership’ category at the THE Awards Asia, often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Higher Education’, this past April, IUE celebrated the pride of turning its achievements into a consistent streak.

Expressing that they are reaping the rewards of their recent strategic steps, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu said: “As a University, we adopt an educational model that raises our students to be individuals who can compete globally, produce, question, and add value to society. Seeing this model yield results on an international scale shows we are on the right track. The scientific work of our academics, the achievements of our students, the strong representation of our graduates both nationally and internationally, and the dedication of our entire administrative staff are the most critical forces behind this outcome.”

Stating that they will continue to work with the same determination to further increase Izmir University of Economics' international visibility and develop its research and innovation capacity, Prof. Dr. Abacıoğlu added: "Izmir University of Economics has reached a level where it is followed and taken as a model in education, research, innovation, and international vision. Our goal for the upcoming period is to carry this valuable position even further.
