PEACE PAINTING IS IN WORLD TOUR
The painting with 3,5 x 7,8m. painted by İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts and Design students and students coming from Greece and TAKEV is being exhibited in Florida, USA in the scope of Art and Design for Social Justice Symposium organized with the collaboration of Florida State University.
“Cultural Bridges” painting was made by 35 children with acrylic painting in 2007 under the coordinatorship of İzmir University of Economics Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design lecturer Asst. Prof. Deniz Hasırcı. “Kids’ Guernica” society that sets out from Picasso’s “Guernica” which protests the bombing of Guernica city by the Germans in Spanish Civil War was formed in Japan in 1995 and painted more than 70 pictures in 30 countries.
VOLUNTEER PEACE ENVOY
İzmir University of Economics Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design lecturer Asst. Prof. Deniz Hasırcı got Turkish and Greek students together and coordinated the painting of the picture, and she also worked for peace in the symposium. The Volunteer Peace Envoy Hasırcı made models and paintings in Hartsfield Elementary School, USA with the children. Asst. Prof. Hasırcı gave peace message with the children with these 3 works. Asst. Prof. Hasırcı stated that by imposing concepts like peace and friendship to people when they are young, the future would be peaceful with healthy individuals.
Asst. Prof. Hasırcı stated that Art and Design for Social Justice Symposium was an important event had a place in the world media. Asst. Prof. Hasırcı said, “In Florida we spent time in workshops, panels, and exhibitions. I also gave seminars on the design of child spaces and participant design. I met with people who want to work collectively in the field of design and made new friends. I was very proud to deliver peace messages to the world in the name of our country."
Asst. Prof. Hasırcı also stated that the “Cultural Bridges" painting would be exhibited in Florida Museum of Art for nearly 1 month and said, “The painting was exhibited before in European Capital of Culture: Productivity of Culture Conference in Athens. The next stop of the painting and the model is “Great Explorations” child museum in Florida.”
