FAMOUS CARICATURIST SALİH MEMECAN AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Memecan who has completed his undergraduate architecture education and master education at METU and his architecture doctorate in Pennsylvania University made a speech on “From Architecture to Caricature”.
Memecan, who was the 23rd guest of “Architecture Speeches” organized by IUE Department of Architecture, shared the details of drawing caricature. Memecan listed the three requirements of being a caricaturist “To be able to draw, to be humorous and knowledgeable”. The caricaturist stated that drawing a caricature could be learned as walking and speaking, and he told how he started drawing caricature. Memecan said that in his childhood he was not able to talk fluently so it was easier for him to draw and said, "In the University I was known as the boy who was drawing caricatures.”
Memecan encouraged the Department of Architecture students and said, “With the development in technology and increase in production, design and designers are desirable and they will become more desirable, so know the value of your department." Memecan talked about how the concepts like drawing, perspective and shadow contributed to his education while answering the questions of the students and drew “Zeytin and Limon” on the blackboard.
