In his speech, President Erol Bilecik stated that entrepreneurship was both a culture and journey of life at the same time. Bilecik said, “Entrepreneurship is a result of determination, stability, dynamism, and never giving up. ‘Bu Gençlikte İş Var’ competition we started in 2011 is also based on that thought. We aimed to bring experience and passion together. We believe it’s more than a competition. On one side, there are young people who want to realize their business ideas, on the other side, there is a group who wants to share their experiences, and guide them on this journey. This creates a synergy”.
‘Flag is a symbol’
Bilecik mentioned that 3 thousand 706 students from 152 countries applied for the competition, and that the real success was the university administration that supported entrepreneurship. Bilecik said, “Entrepreneurship flag is just a symbol in fact. But with that team work and synergy building up, this flag will get to see many more TUSIAD presidents. Izmir University of Economics qualified for this flag with its
235 students. You are in the forefront of journey of entrepreneurship. This is passion. World of academia and students are our most valuable partners. I strongly believe that you will look after the core values of the Republic. Your innovative ideas will rise up entrepreneurship”.
‘Following Atatürk’s steps’
President Ekrem Demirtaş stated that the University’s vision was not about giving a diploma only, that they aimed to produce graduates who are ready for workforce. President Demirtaş said, “We tell our student that they can work somewhere for 3 to 5 years but later on, they need to start up their own businesses, and become entrepreneurs. We have over 10 thousand graduates. This University was established to execute the will of their ancestors at the 1st National Economy Congress in 1923. Therefore, we raise students who follow the path of Atatürk. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all students who made it possible for us to have this flag”.
‘Many more to come’
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan stated that projects of Izmir Economics students made up for the 10% of projects that applied for the competition. The Rector said that they would continue to qualify for the flag in the coming years as well.
