‘Right choice’ suggestions from the expert

More than 3 million students across Turkey are waiting excitedly to choose a university. While young people meticulously continue their research with their families in order to study at their dream university. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Promotion Director Diledi Kazan Aksoy shared her suggestions for the ‘right choice’. Aksoy said, “Take your talent and interest into consideration when making a choice, and set your own priorities. Don't make your choices based on your friend’s choices. Do not include the programs and universities you do not want in your preference list.”
Emphasizing the importance of doing extensive research and getting professional support before making a choice, Aksoy reminded that the choice of university and program is a very important threshold that will affect the whole life. Aksoy said, “Make a list of the potential universities you can attend and examine each one in detail, make comparisons. Evaluate the university's departments, faculty, academic opportunities, graduate employment status and overall atmosphere. Make your choices in order of success, not score. However, do not put the program you want very much at the bottom of the list just because the success rank is low. Do not make a choice without consulting an expert.”
THERE MAY BE DIFFERENT THOUGHTS
Aksoy continued as follows: “In this process, everyone may have different thoughts and preferences. Talk to your friends, support each other. This is quite natural. But always make the final decision for yourself. Don't be influenced. Consider your family's opinions and experiences, too. Consider the location of the university, tuition fees, and scholarship opportunities. Browsing alumni achievements and academic qualifications will give you an insight into the academic quality of the university and the employment level of its graduates.”
DON'T MAKE A CHOICE WITHOUT VISITING THE CAMPUS
Stating that if possible, the university campus should be visited before making a choice, Aksoy said, “Visit the classrooms, labs and studios of the university you are considering choosing. Meet with the university's students and academics. Do not forget to search for double major and minor programs, foreign language opportunities and opportunities to study abroad. Evaluate the social opportunities of the university, look into student clubs, sports and artistic activities in detail. Research the university's internship and job opportunities, business connections, and technological equipment.”
