IUE academic elected to chair the council
Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Director, Izmir University of Economics Continuing Education Center (EKOSEM), was elected as the chair of the Turkish Universities Continuing Education Centers Council (TUSEM), which carries out studies with the aim of disseminating qualified knowledge throughout the society. The council, which has 139 university members, will produce projects to increase education for various occupational groups to raise awareness of lifelong learning and contribute to the qualified workforce.
Elected as the chair of the council established in 2010, Prof. Dr. Ertürk visited the Higher Education Quality Council (YOKAK) with the members of the board of directors. Evaluations were made regarding the accreditation processes of continuing education centers in Turkey in the meeting held with YOKAK President Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar.
WE WILL SOLVE THE ACCREDITATION PROBLEM
Stating that she attaches great importance to her duty at TUSEM, Prof. Dr. Ertürk stated that she wanted to contribute to the development of continuing education centers within the foundation and state universities in Turkey. Noting that continuing education centers may have difficulties in obtaining 'accreditation' and that they will work to solve this problem, Prof. Dr. Ertürk said, “The purpose of continuing education centers are to plan training programs for the public, private sector and international organizations or individuals in the areas they need. To organize national and international courses, seminars, conferences, education fairs. Training can be provided in a wide range of areas, from personal and professional development to language training. We will work to make these trainings reach more people throughout the society. Thus, we will also contribute to social development.”
THERE SHOULD BE A STANDARD
Prof. Dr. Ertürk continued as follows: “We see that the trainings provided at the continuing education centers are offered at different hours and fees. Even issuing certificates should have a standard. Our first job was to visit YOKAK, which evaluates the education and research activities of higher education institutions, carries out the accreditation processes and the authorization processes of independent external evaluation institutions, to solve these problems. We will hold the TUSEM Fall Meeting on October 6-7, 2022, hosted by Çukurova University Continuing Education Center, together with the participants from YOKAK. We will discuss the issues that need to be resolved in detail.”
