A ‘Classical Music’ Feast at the Nursing Home
The ‘Chamber Orchestra’, consisting of students from Izmir University of Economics (IUE), performed a special ‘bayram’ concert for the residents of the Narlıdere Nursing Home. The youth prepared a classical music repertoire of 14 pieces, offering a musical feast to the elders. The nursing home residents responded to the young musicians with applause, enjoying a day filled with happiness. The concert, which also featured Asst. Prof. Dr. Kutluhan Erol from the Department of Computer Engineering on the mandolin, was highly acclaimed.
A POWERFUL BOND
IUE Arts Coordinator Sinemis Eser Akaoğlu stated that they view art not just as a field of aesthetic production, but also as a powerful social bond that brings generations together. Expressing that both the residents and students had an enjoyable time, Akaoğlu said, “As Izmir University of Economics, we see the elderly individuals as the most precious memory of our society and as key figures who carry cultural heritage and life experience into the future. Their experiences and human values serve as a vital guide for younger generations. Therefore, we see every meeting that brings youth and seniors together as a special opportunity to strengthen social solidarity, respect, and intergenerational ties.”
THE UNIFYING POWER OF ART
Emphasizing that they will continue to organize such events in the future, Akaoğlu added, “We believe these gatherings increase social sensitivity among youth while helping elders feel stronger and happier. We will continue to prioritize social responsibility projects that touch society and build bridges between generations by utilizing the unifying power of art”. Akaoğlu concluded her remarks by thanking orchestra instructor Doruk Çebi and the students.
