‘Vibrating Smart Wristband’ Wins Regional First Prize
A vibrating smart wristband project developed for visually impaired individuals through the collaboration of the Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Engineering and Izmir Girls High School has won first place in the Izmir regional round of the High School Students Research Projects Competition organized by TUBITAK. The project, titled ‘GORUNGU: A Haptic Wristband for Accessible Chemistry’, was developed in the field of chemistry under the theme of ‘Accessible Life Technologies’. It aims to support access to laboratory applications within the scope of chemistry education and experimental learning, particularly for visually impaired students and other disadvantaged groups.
Designed as a human-machine interface and already prototyped, the project team included Prof. Dr. Lale Canan Dülger and Dr. Murat Türkan from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Res. Asst. Alperen Keser from Department of Mechatronics Engineering, technicians Erhan Derviş and Taner Varan, and Faculty of Engineering student Memduh Alp. From Izmir Girls High School, Advisor Teacher Cemal Güzelsoylu and students Ecrin Gülbahar and Tuana Ünalan also contributed to the project.
