Explanation :
The eighth of the Criminal Law Days symposium series, organized regularly every year by the Faculty of Law of Izmir University of Economics, will be held this year with the theme “PAUL JOHANN ANSELM RITTER VON FEUERBACH: A KEYSTONE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MODERN CRIMINAL LAW.”
The symposium will be held in two sessions.
The title of the first session is “FEUERBACH AND THE ENLIGHTENMENT TRANSFORMATION IN CRIMINAL LAW,” and it will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Dr. Eric HILGENDORF (Faculty of Law, Julius Maximilian University, Würzburg – Germany). In this session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozan Ercan TAŞKIN (Faculty of Law, Anadolu University) will present his paper titled “Understanding Feuerbach with Beccaria: An Evaluation on the Significance of Cesare Beccaria in the Context of Enlightenment and Criminal Law,” followed by Dr. Mehmet Cemil OZANSÜ (Faculty of Law, Istanbul University) with his paper “An Evaluation of the Position and Significance of Feuerbach’s Philosophisch-juridische Untersuchung über das Verbrechen des Hochverraths (1798) [Philosophical–Juridical Inquiry into the Crime of High Treason] in Legal History,” and finally Dr. Baran KIZILIRMAK (Faculty of Law, Julius Maximilian University, Würzburg – Germany) with his paper “The Influence of Feuerbach on the Development of Turkish Criminal Law from the Tanzimat Era to the Present.” The session will conclude with a discussion part with the contributions of the participants.
The title of the second session is “FEUERBACH FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF CRIME AND SANCTION THEORY,” and it will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Veli Özer ÖZBEK (Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics). In this session, Assist. Prof. Dr. Serdar TALAS (Faculty of Law, Istanbul University) will present his paper titled “The Meaning of Imputability in Feuerbach’s Theory of Crime,” followed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Gökhan ÖLMEZ (Faculty of Law, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University) with his paper “Feuerbach’s Concept of Intent,” then Assist. Prof. Dr. Emine KABAK YÜCE (Faculty of Law, Dokuz Eylül University) with her paper “The Concept of ‘Psychological Coercion’ as the Basis of Punishment in Feuerbach’s Thought and Its Reflections Today in the Light of Neuroscience,” and finally Res. Assist. İlker TEPE (Faculty of Law, Dokuz Eylül University) with his paper “What Did Feuerbach Mean by the ‘Philosophical or General Part of Criminal Law (philosophischer oder allgemeiner Teil des peinlichen Rechts),’ and How Was It Understood in the 19th Century?” The session will end with a discussion part allocated to questions, answers and evaluations.
