DUAL DIPLOMA OPPORTUNITY IN FIVE NEW DEPARTMENTS IN VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
IUE Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Hakan Yetkiner stated that since there was no base point this year, the candidates who receive over 145 in any of OSS-1 Point types could apply to these programs and said “We are very proud to be the first university that initiated the Vocational Schools dual diploma program that YOK recommended. Our partner in this program is Scottish Qualifications Authority, (SQA). This institution has an important role in offering a standard and well-qualified education throughout Scotland. The qualifications determined by SQA, the levels and the certificates given are valid in both United Kingdom and EU countries. SQA is also a EUROPASS member. SQA implements qualification programs in various levels. The level that is implemented by İzmir University of Economics Vocational School is Higher National Diploma–HND program under Higher National Level-HNs heading. The most important features of the program is that it is the equivalent of Vocational School education in Turkey, there is chance to transfer to undergraduate programs in 3rd grade and the diploma is not only valid in Scotland and UK but also in all EU countries.”
Assoc. Prof. Hakan Yetkiner stated that the medium of education of the programs was English and said "After Preparatory class the students that complete the first grade here can study in Scotland in the second year. If they want, they can apply to appropriate departments there, study one more year, and receive an undergraduate diploma. The graduate students will receive dual diplomas that are valid in UK and EU. They will gain an important advantage for working life."
IUE Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu stated that the business world needed intermediate staff with a foreign language and said, "We are happy to see that the program that we are carrying out for two years brought results. We designated these programs by considering the need for new specialization areas in education and especially in occupational education, the necessity of practical viewpoint within main principles of basic specialization areas and the necessity for having a dual diploma that has international validity. I want to thank to our Board of Trustees President Ekrem Demirtaş who saw this system in his Scotland tour and fired the first sparkle to bring it to Turkey. Thanks to his foresight, we are the first university that implemented this system, which YOK recommended insistently. In Vocational School, we brought the program that proved its success to the world to Turkey. Truly following the education program in Scotland and dual diploma will provide very important advantages to the students. The students who enter the exam this year and choose these programs are very lucky because there is no base point. I am sure that the points will increase in following years."
