A different look to wedding dress from the academicians
Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Department of Fashion Design attended IF Wedding-Dress and Dress Fair with professional designs.
The instructors of the department Angela Burns, Özge Dikkaya Göknur, Dilek Himam and Seda Özen designed wedding dresses in the scope of the project named “White Memory” with the leadership of Head of Department of Fashion Design Şölen Kipöz. Seda Kuleli supported the production of designs that were exhibited with the location design of Ebru Corsini.
In the scope of the exhibition, designs related to difference that the married couples’ may find in their dresses that came out of their personal memory and memoirs in spite of the standardization created today by global fashion and marriage industry. In this context, by emphasizing especially the bride identity, they worked on wedding dresses that is as private as the person’s own skin and that makes them feel sincerity despite the temporary wedding dresses that are fashionable and yet hyperbolic, smooth, embossed, masked, packaged and lacking feeling.
The aesthetics in white memory collection is exhibited by Angela Burns’s “Nostalgia Marriage” with longing for the past and the place that you belong, Dilek Himam’s “Transferred Memory” with commitment, dedicating yourself to the “other” and perpetuating personal memory by fertility, Özge Dikkaya Göknur’s “Best Wishes” with the symbolic objects in gift culture and articulating them to the body of the bride and Seda Özen’s multi-media work named “An Amusing Fairytale” and different viewpoints to wedding dresses are exhibited.
