YAREN DOLLS; ON THEIR WAY FOR CHILDREN
Designer students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) set out to make ill children happy. The students made doll clothes and decorated them as part of the “Yaren Dolls Project”, co-organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design and Bostanlı Rotary Club, which will later be sold for the benefit of children who have leukaemia, heart and kidney problems. The raised funds will be donated to children hospitalized at Behçet Uz Children’s Hospital.
The dolls were prepared by junior students and student volunteers guided by lecturers Seda Kuleli and Özge Dikkaya Göknur, and led by Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design. The students stated that they felt honoured to prepare cloths and accessories for the naked dolls as part of their Fashion Studio course.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır said, “We are carrying out the Yaren Dolls Project together with Bostanlı Rotary Club. We received the dolls naked. Our students prepared clothes for the dolls and decorated them as part of their fashion studio course. The fund that will be raised from the project will be donated to the children hospitalized at Behçet Uz Children’s Hospital with leukaemia as well as children having heart and kidney problems. We aimed to create awareness and get social attention with this project.”
Prof. Dr. Adanır, who said that student were involved both as part of their course and on a voluntary basis, stated they prepared 50 Yaren Dolls and they planned to put them up for sale during the month of January.
“The dolls took us back to our childhood”
Gözde Şenkaya, junior student at IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that they enjoyed very much working at the project that started out as part of their course, and she said, “This project took us back to our childhood. We had so much fun. The fact that these dolls were prepared for ill children made us more happy and proud.” Sırma Gülgeze, also a junior student at IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, said, “We were eager to come to the class because it was for the benefit of the children and for their happiness.”
