IUE Basketball Team is the Champion
Izmir University of Economics Ladies Basketball Team, which was established last year and became the third in the tournament organized in Sakarya University, participated in Interuniversity Category C Ladies Turkish Group Championship hosted by Muğla University. The ladies defeated Muğla University in the first game by a 86-55 score and completed the tournament with success. Izmir University of Economics had defeated Afyon Kocatepe University by a 64-33 score, Burdur M.Akif Ersoy University by a 76-30 score and went on to the finals. In the finals, our team has defeated Denizli Pamukkale University by a 62-40 score, became the Champion and rose to Category B.
Sports Coordinator Vehbi İşgören stated that the aim of the athletes that managed to become one of the 24 teams among all university teams is to rise to Category A. He also said, “Even though all the universities we competed were Schools of Gymnastics and Sports we managed to outpace them all with a team that is established only last year. I am sure this success will continue in Category B.”
