FUTURE PSYCHOLOGISTS CAME TOGETHER FOR THEIR CAREER

Turkish Psychology Students Study Group Fall Meeting, which was hosted by Izmir University of Economics, brought 200 psychology students from various universities in Turkey together.
The Study Group, which was established in order to strengthen the communication between students and provide exchange of information regarding scientific and professional topics, also analyzes the status of psychology departments of universities. 200 students from 25 universities attended the conferences, activities, and projects that lasted for 4 days. Students exchanged ideas on what can be done about psychology as a science and as a career.
IUE, Faculty of Arts and Science, Head of Department of Psychology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetinkaya said that the meeting of the students at a national level was very flattering for Turkey, and he stated that, Psychology being among the top professions of the future, wasn’t a coincidence. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetinkaya said, “To profess such a sacred occupation that serves the essence of human requires a responsibility and maturation rarely seen in other fields. Therefore, we believe that, any effort in the name of training psychology students under better conditions and better equipped can only be achieved with a student focused approach. I am proud of our students because they assumed such a responsibility by attending this event.”
IUE, Department of Psychology junior student and the President of the Study Group, Büşra Kaya stated that, they came to an agreement about the inadequacy of graduate programs in terms of number and variety. She said, “The quality of the education, being offered by so many Departments of Psychology with insufficient number of staff, does not meet the standards unfortunately. We discussed the obstacles, caused by not having a professional chamber, especially in clinical fields. I believe the meeting was very productive for every participant.”
200 psychology students enjoyed Efes and Şirince trips, after attending 4 day long conferences and sessions.
