TIME STOPPED AT 09.05
The Grand Leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was commemorated at the 72nd year of his death in Izmir University of Economics.
Vice-chancellors, all academic and administrative staff and students attended the ceremony that took place in campus garden in front of the Ataturk monument. After wreath-laying at 09.05 time stopped in Izmir University of Economics. After siren sounds and one minute homage, Turkish National Anthem was sung.
History of Ataturk Principles and Revolutions department academician assistant professor doctor Murat Hatipoğlu gave his speech on the meaning and the importance of the day. He reminded that the period was the most agitated and the worst days of Ottoman Turkey when Ataturk was growing. He said that despite all these problems Mustafa Kemal is the superior and the biggest statesman that Turkey brought up in last centuries. He also stated that Ataturk laid the foundation of modern Turkey till the date of 1938 not with philosophical fictions but with all his experiences that were gained in difficult situations. He saw the future of Turkey at the same qualified working life, education, production, art and our blowing with the national individualism. Therefore to be able to understand Ataturk we need not only rationalism but also scientifics and realism. I see this as a duty of mine to commemorate our Ataturk with respect, gratitude and aspiration one more time.
After the ceremony Zülfü Livaneli’s film Veda which is about Ataturk’s life was screened in the conference hall.
