ANOTHER AWARD FROM ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS
The common project of Pınar Kayhan and Murat Ardalı received honorable mention in the “Steel Construction Design” student competition organized by Borusan Mannesmann Pipe and Turkish Association of Constructional Steel. In the competition participated by 54 groups, 202 students from 31 universities creative solutions that emphasize the features of steel construction are presented as project.
Kayhan and Ardalı created a project in 2 months about a youth center and a youth square in İzmir Konak Square and they first made a design that featured specially the Clock Tower. Ardalı stated that they designed a youth center by utilizing the advantages of steel construction and said, “We chose Konak Square on purpose. We planned a youth center in order to bring the young people together and raise awareness about bad habits like drugs, cigarette, and alcohol. The most important feature of the center, which is totally made up of steel, is to show the clock tower and the mosque in Konak. It is very good to be awarded in a competition that we attended for the first time.”
Pınar Kayhan also received honorable mention with another project she prepared in the same semester. Kayhan, together with Istanbul Technical University students Gönül Dereli and Pelin Kaydan, attended the “Women Friendly Urban Space Model” competition for students organized by United Nations Joint Program to Promote and Protect Human Rights of Women and Girls.
Pınar Kaydan designed a center in city center that the women can easily access and receive help. Kayhan received a honorable mention in this competition. Pınar Kayhan stated that the project was designed just for women and said, “Our aim in women center is to create a center where all the women can come and find solutions for their problems. Consultants and social service officers take place in this center. We also designed breast-feeding points in the center. We created a center that can meet the needs of the women.”
