IUE GOES TO “GOLDEN CAP”
İzmir University of Economics Department of Culinary Arts and Management 2nd grade student Göksu Eriş, Muzaffer Özdamar and Sedat Can Parmaksız stated that they would be rewarded for their efforts and said, “We aim to make a name for İzmir with delicious foods and talented chefs.”
The students stated that they had to cook one main course in two portions in one hour saying, “Our food will be evaluated in four categories; hygiene, taste, creativity and presentation. We need to be very careful.”
Department of Culinary Arts and Management instructor Alexia Yenel said that 1500 chefs would compete in 11 branches for Golden Cap. Instructor Yenel indicated that the contest in an international arena would be an unforgettable experience for the students. She said, “I trust my students. I am sure we will be successful in the contest. Medals or awards are not important, experiencing that excitement and the joy of competing is important.”
Instructor Yenel stated that Department of Culinary Arts and Management was established in 2008, and underlined the fact that the department was the one and only undergraduate program of the region in this field. She also said, “We aim to equip our students with managerial knowledge and skills as well as theoretical and practical knowledge in gastronomy. Our students will be able to represent our country in such contests that take place either in Turkey or abroad without having a problem about language.”
Golden Cap Cooking Contest will be organized by Chefs Union with the support of Turkey Cook Federation in Antalya Expo Center from January 20 to 23, 2010.
