CHANGE OF DUTY AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu passed the baton to Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Lecturer of IUE Department of Economics. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu was presented with a plaque of appreciation from Prof. Dr. Esen at the handover ceremony that took place prior to the IUE Senate Meeting. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu, on the other hand, congratulated Prof. Dr. Esen on his new duty, extended his best wishes and gave him a bouquet of flowers.  

Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, who had been the Rector of IUE between the years of 2012-2014, stated that he carried out his duty with the intention of promoting the University for 13 years since its establishment. Baltacıoğlu said that he would continue his career as an academician, and also take part in the International Consultancy Council as part of the University’s 10 year Strategic Plan. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu, referred to change of rectorate duty as change of guard. He said, “We planned for our students to enter life well-equipped, with self-confidence, and accumulation of knowledge and competitiveness. We developed projects that will improve their intellectual accumulation. Person’s point of view for life, pleasure he/she gets from life, job, and society has a direct effect on personal life as well as on work life. The institution is going through a change of flag. I will continue to contribute to the development of students as an academician.”

‘Bright future is planned ahead’

Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, on the other hand, pointed out that he had been undertaking many duties since the establishment of IUE, and the progresses the University achieved in entrepreneurship area would continue in the new term as well. Prof. Dr. Esen stated that Izmir University of Economics would become a world university with its international consultants, and he said, “We will continue our achievements in entrepreneurship and innovation areas in the new term. We will continue to make the students focal point of all higher education activities. In this way, we will be creating learning environments that match the learning habits of new generations. We will increase the global visibility of the University, which maintains its role as a leader in higher education, through new initiatives in the international arena.  We will together work on to ensure the welfare of Izmir and its people, and to reach perfection. We are working for a bright future in the next ten years beginning from today.”
