President Demirtaş stated they did their share of work earnestly to support EXPO. He said, “During the time when Izmir was running for candidacy for EXPO 2015, we offered a full scholarship for a student of a BIE member country in order to strengthen the relations. Our purpose was to support Izmir’s candidacy this way. That time our offer received a great deal of attention. We kept our promise. When our city officially became an EXPO 2020 candidate, we decided to make it more regular and shared this with BIE member countries. 24 students from Africa and from continents of Europe, Asia, and America come to our university to study. Today, total of 46 students from 40 countries receive higher education with the distinction of IUE scholarships.”
