STUDENTS SHOULD SEEK SUPPPORT WHILE MAKING A UNIVERSITY CHOICE

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetinkaya said, “Making the right choices is one of the most significant steps for students in shaping their future. Therefore, the preference lists made randomly without consulting the professionals may affect their success negatively. This may risk a chance of a happy and content university and business life. The students need to know their strengths and weaknesses before making their choices.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çetinkaya, who pointed out the importance of having solid and reliable information for candidates before they made their choices, stated that individuals were often faced with information pollution in a competitive world. Çetinkaya said:
“Candidates receive help through informative activities by many institutions, particularly by our University, to take more effective decisions. The candidates should visit the departments they are interested in, meet the academic staff, seek answers for their questions. Students also need to act together with their families when doing this. It will allow a more realistic and successful ground for the candidates.”
Recommendations by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Çetinkaya, IUE Head of Department of Psychology, to prospective university students. Candidates need to;
- have access to valid and reliable information before making their preference lists
- identify their strengths and weaknesses
- attend promotions and informative meetings organized by universities
- visit the departments they are interested in
- get support of their families. The family needs to work together with the candidate, and provide a basis for realistic choices.
