THE YOUTH SHAPE THEIR FUTURE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF IUE
University candidates will be informed about departments, faculties, and careers at “Izmir University of Economics Preference and Introduction Days”. Seminars titled, “To be a university student, career, and choosing professions” will be held as part of the organization. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, and Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cemali Dinçer and Prof. Dr. Murat Adıvar, will address the youth at the first seminar that will take place on July 8, 2013 at 10.30. The guidance teachers will brief the students about Faculties of “Business Administration, ‘Engineering and Computer Sciences’, ‘Agricultural Technology and Food Sciences’, ‘Law’, ‘Arts and Science’, ‘Communication’, and ‘Fine Arts and Design’.
There will also be briefing about Department of Civil Engineering of Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Department of Health Management of Faculty of Health Sciences, Computer Programming, Occupational Health and Safety programs of Vocational School, and Medical Documentation and Secretariat and Elderly Care programs of Vocational School of Health Sciences, which will be accepting students for the first time this year.
The seminar will not only enlighten the youth about their university lives but about their future as well. The guidance teachers will provide information about vocational school programs, and Departments of Fashion and Textile Design and Culinary Arts and Management, both of which accept students after an aptitude test, along with 8 faculties, 34 undergraduate degree programs, and 10 associate degree programs in details. 12 experienced guidance counsellors will make professional explanations about students’ preferences throughout Preference and Introduction Days. About 45 volunteer students of Izmir University of Economics will share their own experiences with the candidates. The candidate students who are unsure about their choices about departments based on their scores not only benefit from the expertise of the guidance teachers, but from students who are currently receiving education.
The candidates will be briefed on qualified and scientific education and training offered at the departments, efficient and creative university life, social activities, and student clubs. Also, information on dual diploma programs offered in 7 undergraduate degree programs in collaboration with USA–(SUNNY) State University of New York, ERASMUS student exchange agreements with 104 universities abroad, and academic cooperation with 27 universities will be provided in details.
Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu stated that the university candidates and their parents benefiting from the preference counselling services offered by the University was a road map in shaping their future correctly. He said, “The students get alarmed about shaping their future after the announcement of the scores. Both students and their parents feel overwhelmed during this period. We are going to offer our services and help families until the end of the preference period. Expert guidance teachers and volunteer students will share their knowledge with the prospective students. We offer help through our web page for those who cannot make it to the school. But we hope to see the candidates and their parents at our university”.
Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu also stated that they offer help through social media for candidates feeling confused to ease their mind. Baltacıoğlu said, “Facebook application, ‘What Will Become of Me?’ was prepared in order to guide and help the candidates feeling confused. It is understandable that students may feel confused after many years of hard studying. They may need a mentor. IUE Faculty Members gladly want to become their mentors. Whatever the candidates need to know, and learn, the mentors will help the candidates through Facebook application until the Preference period is over”.
